Animo produced four series of Far Away Up Close, a production that documented the way aid is spent in developing countries. Produced in partnership with government-run Irish Aid, audiences were given an insight into the various issues that each of the regions featured face, and how these problems were being combatted.
In the last series of Far Away Up Close, former government minister Liz O’ Donnell went in search of the real lives behind Ireland’s overseas development aid programme. Exploring what Ireland is doing for countries in the developing world, Liz looked at the impact of Ireland’s governmental commitment that saw us spend over €900 million in aid.
Crucially, the series gave audiences a glimpse of the human stories behind these larger national problems, and how individuals are actually benefiting from this aid.
